The stigma of mental illness keeps the ill anxious.
The more anxious they become, the more “insane” they are deemed. The more insane they are deemed, the more likely they are to be misperceived in action. These misperceptions can lead to devastating consequences. These consequences leave us stuck in the never-ending cycle of stigma.
You can be productive, despite your illness. You can have successful relationships and you can live a fulfilled life despite your shortcomings, history or list of prescriptions. It is okay to have an illness; it is not okay to be shamed for it.
Anxiety sinks like black sludge. All the bad feelings clog up within your diaphragm. It gets a little harder to breathe. A frog climbs into your throat and it just sits there….ribbet… ribbet… “Why do I feel this way?” is the first thought. Thoughts and delusions spiral out of control. Reality is no longer clear. Anxiety is a collection of psychological art that illustrates intense anxious states of being, driven by the primal brain and its fight or flight instincts.
This collection was drawn with Golden Acrylic Paint Markers on bristol paper. All pieces are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
