Guilt is a natural reaction to conscious or unconscious wrongdoing.

Sometimes things haunt you. Like a shadow in the night, it follows you. It’s always there, whether you’d like it to be or not. And it’s heavy. Guilt has a way of weighing you down. You can’t escape it, no matter the method of forgetting. White guilt is the guilt attached to one’s skin tone. It is the guilt of oppression, of privilege, of a working conscience.

The Relational Phenomenon, created during SWARM’s 2020 residency, is about the psychology of oppression. The backbone of our American society functions off of the backs of black and brown people. Wool pulls snuggly over the eyes of mainstream culture and the abundant white American population. The white men who invaded, ravaged and pillaged the beautiful American landscape and its people are the ones who tell us about our history. Reparations are the only way to account for the damage done across several generations. That is why 25% of all profits will benefit The Aura House, a black-owned holistic mental health collective uplifting black and brown women.

This collection was drawn with Faber & Castell brush pens on bristol paper, then shaded with Daler Rowney graphite pencils. All pieces are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
